Posted by: ena malcup (3378) View ena malcup's page I can trump that. Commis Chef at a hotel in Lake District in 1960's' Start time 6-00 am Finish 11-00 pm Seven days a week. (In theory a day off never got it though, an No extra pay for working) All for food & accommodation & 7/6d per week. (At that time, 7/6d would have bought around 60 cigs or 3 to 4 pints of bitter) Only stuck it from Easter to Whit: I did not get paid at all for the last two weeks, so I left, and no stamps on my NI card! Not the worst job I have done, but definitely the lowest paid! Started by: ena malcup (3621) View ena malcup's page With another poster. I think there is an 'elephant in the room' issue here, which has been simmering beneath the surface across a number of recent threads. Obviously this is not something unique to WW, and is probably somewhat inevitable on sites like this. I have hesitated to post, knowing the thread itself may well attract conflict, but my intention is to raise the question of 'IT IS HOW YOU DEAL WITH IT, moving forward'! There is a distinction between members having a spat and then moving on, versus people holding a grudge which they are reluctant to let go of. I guess the site can cope with the latter, but these ongoing feuds are accounting for increasing proportions of the content. (Complaints of ruining threads abound) This is what I find that I am saying to myself: It would be dishonourable not to stay and fight my corner, but to quit , when faced with hostility from another poster: I hope that I am made of stouter stuff than that. On the other hand, there is always an opportunity cost: Why am I wading through this crap when I could be watching some paint drying? Well, I have said my two penneth worth, and will say no more. Take this up and run with it, or turn your backs upon it: obviously, the choice is yours. Did you spend all your time in the hut: heard the jargon but never saw the kit. What where you, the site's rent boy? In fairness the rent boy line was a first rate comeback, one of the best I have seen on WW. Broady was never the same after

Posted by: priscus (inactive) One day, I wandered into a French market, and said to my companion, "Look: a stall selling Lancashire Cheese". Quite something I thought, given the French attitude to their own cheeses. "You're not going to buy some, are you." she said. I replied, "yes I am. Look, it is made in Goosnargh. I used to work there" Imagine my surprise when the stall holder responded in the most broad Lancashire voice with, "Tha oost wurk in Goosnargh? Weer th ell did twurk in Goosnargh: thus nowt theer?" I explained that I worked underground, in the (then still functioning)nuclear bunker. I hope that I did not break the Official Secrets Act, because he next said, "Ell, that's on ma land: Ah alwus wudert what thiy did dewn theer"! And, I did buy and enjoy the cheese. www.wiganworld.co.uk/communicate/mb_message.php?opt=f1&msd=1425464&offset=&subject=Lancashire%2520Cheese.

"So, I had to then ask, HOW do I get to this secret place? I was only sixteen years old, so did not drive" 16 years of age what exactly was he doing in there and what part would a 16 year old play during and after a nuclear kick-off. Post apocalyptic tea-boy perhaps?
